Clinical Excellence for Remote Maritime Environments

Bridging the Gap Between First Aid and Advanced Medical Response

A Division of Advanced Rescue Solutions Canada Inc.

In the maritime environment, the "Golden Hour" of emergency medicine rarely exists. Whether you are a bluewater cruiser crossing the Atlantic, a government field team operating in coastal waters, or a yacht club managing member safety, access to professional medical care is often hours or days away.

The Canadian Offshore Medical and Marine Survival Training Institute provides professional-grade medical training designed specifically for the isolation of the marine environment. We move beyond standard first aid to teach clinical autonomy—empowering crews and staff to stabilize, treat, and manage patients for prolonged periods until professional extraction is possible.

Who We Serve

Our curriculum is adaptable and scalable, designed to meet the specific liability, safety, and operational needs of four distinct groups:

1. Yacht Clubs & Marinas

Enhance the value of your membership and increase safety within your sailing community. We partner with clubs to host weekend intensives or evening series directly in your clubhouse. This not only promotes a culture of safety but also provides members with vital skills that go beyond the standard PCOC requirements.

2. Government Agencies & Small Businesses

For marine contractors, research vessels, and government patrol units, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance is critical. We provide duty-of-care training that ensures your field teams are capable of handling workplace injuries and medical emergencies in isolated water-based worksites.

3. Bluewater Sailors & Long-Distance Cruisers

For those venturing beyond the horizon, you are the ship’s doctor. Our training prepares skippers and crew to manage complex medical events—from sepsis to fractures—using the specific medical kits and limitations found on cruising vessels.

We Come to You: Mobile Training Solutions

We understand that logistics are often the barrier to effective training. To solve this, we operate as a fully mobile training institute.

During the summer boating season, our instructors travel extensively throughout Ontario and beyond, bringing our advanced equipment, simulation tools, and expertise directly to your town, facility, or yacht club.

  • Host a Course: Yacht Clubs can book a specific weekend for their members.

  • On-Site Corporate Training: We set up in your boardroom or warehouse to minimize employee downtime.

  • Community Tours: Check our schedule to see when we are visiting your coastal town or marina.

The Curriculum: Advanced Skills for Isolated Care

Our courses are derived from advanced pre-hospital care protocols and adapted for the non-medical professional operating in a marine setting. The focus is on Resource Management, Telemedicine Interface, and Prolonged Patient Care.

Core Modules Include:

  • Advanced Maritime Trauma: Hemorrhage control (tourniquets/packing), fracture reduction, and spinal immobilization in confined spaces.

  • The Offshore Dispensary: Pharmacology training for the marine environment, including the administration of antibiotics, analgesics, and injectables (IM/IV) where legally permitted.

  • Environmental Emergencies: Aggressive management of hypothermia, cold water immersion drowning, and heat stroke.

  • Wound Management: Cleaning, debridement, and closure techniques (stapling/suturing/adhesives) to prevent infection during long passages.

  • Diagnostic Skills: How to perform a clinical assessment and effectively communicate vital signs to onshore physicians via satellite or radio (Telemedicine).

Custom Training & Consultancy

Every vessel and operation is unique. As a division of Advanced Rescue Solutions Canada, we possess the clinical depth to build custom training solutions for your specific risks.

  • Custom Medical Kits: We review your current medical inventory and build training specifically around the gear you carry.

  • Expedition Prep: Preparing a team for the Northwest Passage? We design curricula for specific cold-weather or tropical disease risks.

  • Liability Workshops: For businesses, we focus on documentation, incident reporting, and triage protocols to manage organizational risk.

Medical preparedness is the ultimate insurance policy.
